The 2007 Baptista Maresh Vineyard Pinot Noir ...is one of elegance and nuance; exactly what a Dundee Hills Pinot should be. Harvested the day before the near-epic rains of that fall, this Pinot is richer in mouth feel than many '07's from the Hills. It is the inaugural harvest of the Pommard clone in their third leaf, when the vines make their best "first impression." Deep garnet in color, this beauty has an intoxicating nose with notes of lilac and the terroir. On the palate, classic Maresh blackberry and spice dominate, with a hint of rose petal. Graceful and well-balanced, the wine grows in the glass, finishes long, and lingers. This '07 has light acidity, making it a natural match with salmon and steaks. Drinking wonderfully now, it will continue to develop for the next decade. Those looking for a heavier, "fruit punch" Pinot should look elsewhere; this is a gorgeous wine that will reward either the Pinot aficionado or the novice willing to take the next step. Baptista Maresh Vineyard will be exclusively Pinot Noir. The vineyard is being closely planted in three Pinot Noir clones to achieve an optimal blend, harmonizing each clone's main attribute with the others: Pommard (lush fruit; 3 parts), Wadenswil (lilac nose; 2 parts), Dijon (deep garnet color; 1 part). This blend was selected in consultation with those who began the Oregon wine industry, including Jim Maresh (Dave Maresh's dad), Dick Erath, Dave Lett and Fred Arterberry (Dave's brother-in-law).

At peak, Baptista Maresh Vineyard will produce
only 700 cases of ultra premium Pinot Noir. The '07 inaugural vintage, only 45 cases of the
Pommard clone, was proudly made by Aron Hess
of 12th and Maple Winery, and Daedalus Cellars.
It was finished in French oak, bottled in September '08 and is now ready for release. Baptista Maresh Vineyard will be fully planted by 2010. Peak production is anticipated in 2015.
